ALONG HOHLAUBGRAT - East Ridge
From the end of June to the end of September
Allalinhorn is one of the easier and popular 4000 peaks of the alps; its normal route, technically very easy and close to the lifts use to be very crowded. The east ridge is an option for who like to stay away from people and reach the summit through a scenic, exposed but not very difficult climbing.
The east ridge, also called Hohlaubgrat, it’s mainly a snow route, it only has one rock climbing section on the last buttress, before to summit. The short approach from the Hohlaubgletscher, where the lift leave you, allows to climb this route in a single day. During the climbing, you’ ll enjoy the beautiful view of the peaks that surround the area.
Travel Program
Summit attempt
Meeting with the guide and transfer to Saas Fee. Cable car to Mittelallalin. A tunnel leave you on the Glacier, from where you head to the ridge. The access to the ridge change with different snow conditions. Once on the ridge, you follow it to last buttress and, in a couple of rock climbing pitches, you reach the summit. Descent on the normal route to the Mittelallalin upper station and back to Saas fee by cable car.

TECHNICAL INFO: the east ridge it’s a classic climb: snow slopes are never steeper than 45° and rock climbing is around III+. The descent on the normal route is completely on the glacier and technically easy.
